What is a ‘Vtuber’?

Virtual Streamer (more commonly known as a Virtual Youtuber or Vtuber) is an online entertainer that performs using a virtual avatar with real-time motion capture software. It was popularized in the 2010s in Japan with talents like Kizuna AI utilizing specialized rigs to capture her performance. Now, with easier access to the technology required, this form of entertainment broadcasting is now used world-wide by a variety of people.

While some Vtubers are represented by an agency, such as Vshojo, Hololive, and Nijisanji; Kalmia is one of the thousands of independent vtubers. Everything needed to bring the character of Kalmia to life such as branding, assets, animation, and more is managed or made by the one woman behind the avatar.
